Privacy policy

This policy covers the Parla website and the Parla iOS app. It is written to be read, not skimmed past. If anything is unclear, email hello@parla.app.

The website

If you join the waitlist we store your email address, the date you joined, which form you used, and a one-way hash of your IP address (so we can spot abuse without keeping the address itself). We use the email to tell you when the TestFlight beta opens and, later, when Parla launches. We do not sell or share it, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

The waitlist form may be protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that you are a person. Turnstile is operated by Cloudflare under its own privacy policy. We do not run ads or advertising trackers on this site.

The app

Parla is a voice app. When you talk with Giulia, the app uses your iPhone's microphone and streams the audio to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to transcribe what you said and to generate Giulia's reply. Text transcripts, corrections and pronunciation scores come back the same way. You can stop the microphone at any time, and the app only listens while a conversation is open.

Audio and transcripts are processed to run the conversation and to show you your corrections. We do not use them for advertising. OpenAI processes this data under its API terms, which do not allow it to train on API data by default.

Your saved correction cards and progress are stored on your device. If we add account sync, we will update this policy and ask before enabling it.

Usage data

During the beta, the app sends anonymous diagnostics (crashes, which features were used, response times) so we can fix problems. TestFlight itself also shares crash logs and basic device information with us through Apple. None of this includes your voice or the content of your conversations unless you choose to send feedback.

Who we share data with

• Cloudflare: hosts this website, the waitlist database and the app's API.
• OpenAI: transcribes your speech and generates Giulia's replies.
• Apple: distributes the app through TestFlight and the App Store.

Nobody else. No data brokers, no ad networks.

How long we keep it

Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Audio sent for processing is not retained by our server after the reply is generated. Diagnostics are kept for up to 90 days.

Your choices

Email hello@parla.app from the address you signed up with and we will delete your waitlist entry, or send you a copy of what we hold, within 30 days. You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings, which stops conversations from working but keeps your saved cards.

Children

Parla is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will email the waitlist and show a notice in the app. The date at the top always reflects the latest version. Parla is responsible for this policy.
